Snow letter writing
Penguin painting
I sprinkled some salt into a sensory tray and let the children trace letters and patterns with the penguins.

We have been discussing different shapes in class so I asked the learners to paint two circles (one big and one small). We then stuck cotton wool and made a face and feet for the penguin.

Igloo painting
Play dough fun

I sprinkled some salt into a sensory tray and let the children trace letters and patterns with the penguins.

After reading Tacky the penguin by Helen Lester, we made shirts and bow ties for Tacky, using play dough.
Penguin dance
Iceberg hop
We danced to Jack Hartmann’s penguin dance chant. We moved our left flipper, right flipper and more.
I blew up balloons and asked the children to walk with it between their legs. We spoke about how penguin daddies keep their eggs warm on their feet and have to shuffle around to move anywhere while the mommy is out getting food.
We danced to the penguin freeze dance song. In the video different animals and characters prompt different actions (skate like penguin, twirl like a candy cane, etc.) until the music stops and they shout “freeze.”

I cut out white “icebergs” from cardboard and laid them out on the floor. Then I let the children move in different ways between them. We tried walking, running, hopping on two feet, hopping on one foot, tiptoeing, and skating.
