Our Sagewood academic staff engaged in a two-hour discipline workshop. The workshop was facilitated by Dr Daya Chetty who is a principal, part-time lecturer in the faculty of Educational Law in Education, president of the South African Principals’ Association for Gauteng and the National General Secretary of the South African Principals’ Association. Dr Chetty shared his knowledge, expertise and insight on how to effectively manage discipline in schools. Our staff gained new ideas, tools and strategies for effective classroom management. The workshop as a whole was highly informative and enriching.
One of the important aspects of discipline that Dr Chetty highlighted was teaching children explicit values in education. As a school, we endeavour to ensure that all learners show respect for friends, adults, property etc. and will constantly remind our learners of the values that underpin our every action. We urge our parents to support us in reminding our learners to say please, thank you, excuse me; to call a person by their name i.e. Mr, Mrs, to be patient, honest, helpful, to knock on the door before entering etc. This will deeply influence their behaviour, attitude, decisions and relationships in a positive way.
